General Gordon Square, Woolwich, is a public space designed by Gustafson Porter and completed in 2011. The site falls significantly from its east corner towards its west corner. Across the site are a number of level terraced lawns, wide footpaths, tress, a water feature and planting to three of its edges.
Large blocks of planting are accommodated along three of the four edges. The existing tree to the Greens End edge have been retained within the planting bed along this edge.
Across the site are a number of level terraced lawns, the terraces accommodate the change in level across the site. The lawns are edged with wide topped kerb. Along the lower edge of the lawn this wide kerb forms a retaining structure for the topsoil and provides an informal seating edge.
At the western corner of the square a water feature is located. This uses the existing topography to flow across the site. The water feature is comprised of two inclined planes of water bisected by the main axis path. The upper plane of water is flat, the lower is made uneven by the introduction of an uneven paved surface to the water feature bottom.
