Photinia beauverdiana var. notabilis, commonly known as the Christmas Berry, is a deciduous tree with a rounded crown. The species, Photinia beauverdiana, is native to west China. In its native habitat it grows in woodlands and woodland edges. Its mid green leaves are elliptic, appear copper/ red in spring and become red in autumn before they fall in autumn. Its large white flowers en mass. These are followed by orange to red fruit. Photinia beauverdiana var. notabilis may be used as a small tree that provides interest from spring until autumn.

Helichrysum selago ‘Major’ is an evergreen low growing shrub with a domed habit. The species, Helichrysum selago, is native to New Zealand’s south island. In its native habitat it grows on coastal cliffs. Its mid green/ grey leaves are scale like and lay flat around its stems. Its small cream/ yellow flowers appear as clusters at the tips of its stems. Helichrysum selago ‘Major’ may be used as part of a rock garden planting mix. Once established this plant is drought tolerant and should not be allowed to become waterlogged.

Hebe corriganii, commonly known as Hebe, is an evergreen shrub with an upright, bushy, lax habit. Hebe corriganii is native to the north island of New Zealand. In its native habitat it grows within coastal lowland scrub and forests margins. Its glossy mid green leaves are lanceolate and up to 15cm long. Its small white/ pale purple flowers appear as terminal spikes and are attractive to pollinating. Hebe corriganii is tolerant of maritime conditions. Necessary pruning should be carried out after flowering.
